After the maneuver of changing the course is complete (it will tell you
when this happens on the screen) type "land". This will show you the
possible landing pads in the system including those on planets, ships, and
other stellar objects. Find the landing pad you want to land on (and make
sure it's on the right planet). In your input window type "land [landing
pad name]" but do not push enter. Wait until you have proximity alerts for
your destination planet. If your mud client supports color, this will come
up in red. If your mud client does not support color, I suggest
downloading one that does, they're not hard to find. When you get
proximity alerts for the planet, push enter. If it doesn't work the first
time, keep doing it until it does. If it says that you are too far away to
land, try flying a little closer, it means that you flew out of range and
you need to reset your course to the planet and try again.

When you begin your landing approach successfully, you will usually gain a
level (until you have maxed your piloting out). When the ship finally sets
down on the ground and begins refuelling, and the system will tell you
when this happens, you may "open" the doors and "leave".
